SPRING 2023

REMADE

This concept was created to fit within The North Face REMADE collection.  The materials utilized in this creation were sourced from a friend who cherished their North Face pieces but found they no longer fit them. It was time for the pieces to be turned into something new.

Through the lens of sustainability and innovation, I reimagined these materials, infusing them with new purpose. Aiming to integrate functionality and unique style, offering a fresh perspective on the old pieces of clothing.

THE PROBLEM

The outdoor industry grapples with a critical challenge — the pervasive generation of excessive waste from discarded garments. The North Face acknowledges the urgency of addressing this issue and is committed to making the best products on earth—and keeping Mother Nature, their communities and the future in mind.

INHERENT CHALLENGES

Resource Dependency

The outdoor industry is evolving towards sustainable practices. The North Face leads by prioritizing recycled, responsibly sourced, renewable, and regeneratively grown materials to minimize environmental impact.

Waste Accumulation

The textile industry's production processes often result in substantial waste. The North Face is committed to minimizing this waste by generating as little as possible during production and repurposing textile waste and leftover materials

Linear Design vs. Cyclability

The linear design approach prevails in the industry, contributing to the accumulation of discarded products. The North Face aims to champion cyclability by designing products that can be easily broken down and remade into new gear at the end of their usable lives

Sustainability vs. Replacement

The clash between sustainability and disposability is clear. The prevailing culture of disposable products neglects durability. The North Face challenges this norm by creating products designed to resist damage, highlighting that the most sustainable gear is the one that doesn't need frequent replacement.

INSPIRATION

Taking inspiration from natural landscapes and fibers + boxier silhouettes that will move and change over time.
