SPRING 2023 | JUNIOR STUDIO
ADAPT
This piece was designed and developed with a purpose to address the evolving needs of expectant and new mothers. With a focus on changing bodies, functionality, colors, and material choices, I aimed to redefine how women experience support and empowerment throughout pregnancy and postpartum.
"Adapt" was designed to cater to the unique journey of motherhood. From the physical changes during pregnancy to the postpartum period.
How might we support changing bodies throughout the stages of pregnancy and postpartum?

UNDERSTANDING USER
Details + Takeaways
Have not experienced pregnancy, it was important for me to understand the pain points throughout these phases in a women's life. In the immersive experience of body storming with a pregnancy empathy belly for 90 minutes, I engaged in activities such as running, jumping, wall sits, and stretching, discovering firsthand the discomfort, pain in the back and hips, and increased pressure on the bladder. Flexing my core became essential for comfort, as the constant movement in the belly and the perceived weight burden highlighted the physical challenges and empathetic understanding of the realities of pregnancy.
COLOR PALETTE
Why it's important.
This palette prioritizes sustainability by using colors supported by natural dyes. Brands like KENT, Ganni, and Levi's opt for GOTS-certified organic garments with natural dyes sourced from fruits, flowers, minerals, and spices. These non-toxic alternatives align with the commitment to reduce environmental impact, supporting biodegradability and renewable end-of-life streams. The incorporation of botanical- and food-waste dyes, as seen in Pangaia's collection and Archroma's EarthColors, reinforces a zero-waste color strategy, reducing waste and minimizing water and chemical usage. This sustainable and responsible color selection defines the design process.

PROCESS
Exploring CLO 3D for more efficient patterning and prototyping.
Taking measurements of fit model + putting them into CLO 3D helped making this process more efficient, reducing the amount of prototypes. I was able to take the first proto and make the changes needed and them seam ripped it apart and re-used the fabric for the final proto.
